The World We Live In Trends 2026: How People See Their Changing World
From safety and belonging to technology and the cost of living, consumers are redefining what makes a good quality of life.
The world is changing at remarkable speed. Technology is reshaping how people work, communicate, and manage daily life. Cities are growing, living costs are climbing, and communities are constantly adapting. Yet beneath all this change, people are searching for something surprisingly simple: a safe place to call home, a sense of belonging, and the chance to build a better life.
People may feel positive about where they live today, but how secure are they about tomorrow? The survey uncovers a growing tension between present-day satisfaction and future uncertainty. Rising costs, inflation, job insecurity, climate concerns, and rapid technological change are quietly influencing where people choose to live, what they can afford, and how confidently they plan ahead.

THE BIG PICTURE
Quality of Life Is About More Than Where We Live
Quality of life is no longer defined by comfort alone. It depends on whether incomes can keep pace with expenses, neighbourhoods feel secure, healthcare is accessible, public spaces are clean, and opportunities remain within reach. Where people live increasingly influences not only how comfortable they feel, but also how hopeful they are about the future.
The Panel Station surveyed 251,601 consumers across 28 global markets to understand how people feel about the places they live, the challenges they face, and the forces shaping their future.
The findings reveal an optimistic but realistic outlook. 74.4% rate their quality of life highly, 79.7% feel safe in their neighbourhoods, and 70.8% believe they adapt well to rapid change. At the same time, rising living costs, environmental concerns, and fast-moving technology continue to reshape everyday life.
The trend is clear: consumers are looking beyond economic growth alone. A better future is increasingly defined by safe communities, stronger social connections, greater adaptability, and environments that support everyday wellbeing.
Quality of Life Remains Strong Despite Growing Challenges
Nearly three in four respondents (74.4%) rate their overall quality of life at 4 or 5 out of 5, suggesting that most consumers remain satisfied with where and how they live.
While economic uncertainty and global change continue to influence everyday life, people are finding stability through stronger communities, improved services, and greater personal resilience. Quality of life is increasingly being measured through everyday experiences rather than material success alone.
Feeling Safe Builds Stronger Communities
Safety continues to shape how people experience their surroundings. 79.7% of respondents say they feel safe in their neighbourhood, making it one of the strongest indicators of overall wellbeing.
Safe communities create more than physical security—they encourage trust, stronger social relationships, and greater participation in community life. The findings suggest that feeling secure remains one of the foundations of a good quality of life.
Belonging Matters as Much as Location
Around 69.4% of respondents feel highly connected to the culture around them. Whether through family traditions, local communities, shared values, or neighbourhood activities, belonging continues to play a major role in everyday happiness.
As societies become increasingly diverse and connected, consumers are looking for environments where they feel accepted, represented, and involved. Strong cultural connection is becoming an important measure of community wellbeing.

Adaptability Is Becoming a Life Skill
More than 70% of respondents believe they adapt well to rapid change, reflecting growing confidence in navigating an increasingly unpredictable world.
Technology, changing workplaces, and evolving lifestyles mean that flexibility is becoming one of the most valuable personal strengths. Consumers who embrace change are often better prepared to seize new opportunities while responding to unexpected challenges.
Technology Is Reshaping Everyday Life
When asked what is changing their world the most, respondents most frequently point to technology, ahead of social, economic, and environmental influences.
From artificial intelligence and digital services to online communication and automation, technology is transforming how consumers work, learn, travel, and connect. Rather than resisting change, many are learning how to use technology to improve everyday life.
The Cost of Living Remains the Biggest Concern
Although people remain optimistic about their quality of life, the cost of living emerges as the biggest challenge affecting everyday experiences.
Consumers continue to balance rising expenses with changing priorities, placing greater emphasis on value, financial stability, and practical decision-making. The findings suggest that affordability will remain one of the defining issues shaping consumer behaviour in the years ahead.
The Future Of Our World
What will define progress in the years ahead? It may not be technology or economic growth alone. People increasingly want places that feel safe, connected, affordable, adaptable, and supportive of everyday wellbeing.
The strongest communities will be those that balance innovation with inclusion, opportunity with affordability, and development with a genuine sense of belonging. In 2026, the real measure of progress is not simply how fast the world changes, but how well people are able to live within it.
