THE BIG PICTURE

The survey’s strongest insight emerges when respondents define a truly rich life.

35.2% choose a balance of money, happiness and purpose, while 22.9% prioritise the freedom to live life on their own terms.

The message is clear: financial wellbeing is not merely about accumulating more. It is about creating a life in which security, opportunity and personal fulfilment coexist.

Financial Security Comes Before Luxury

When asked what they would do with more money than they needed, 36% would save it for the future, while 28.3% would invest it.

Together, these findings suggest that financial security and long-term wealth creation take priority over immediate indulgence.

Similarly, 35.3% say watching their savings grow would bring the greatest satisfaction from a surprise bonus.

Money is not simply about purchasing power. It also represents reassurance and preparedness for an uncertain future.

Happiness Is About More Than Money

Although 80.7% rate money as highly important to their happiness, respondents identify different sources of richness that require no spending.

The findings highlight an important distinction: money can support happiness, but happiness itself is experienced through wellbeing, relationships and personal autonomy.

The Real Aspiration Is Balance

Would people prefer more money or more free time?

Interestingly, 62.6% choose a balance of both, rather than prioritising either extreme. Meanwhile, 70.8% agree that experiences are more valuable than material possessions.

This suggests that financial ambition is not disappearing. Instead, people increasingly want their earnings to support a fulfilling lifestyle.

Financial Freedom Is the New Measure of Success

For 42.9% of respondents, complete financial freedom represents the strongest feeling of success, compared with 17.5% who choose a high income.

However, financial concerns remain significant.

When asked which worry they would eliminate, 34.4% choose unexpected expenses, while 28.6% select saving enough for the future.

These findings show why financial freedom is so appealing. It offers more than wealth; it promises greater control over everyday decisions.

Time and Relationships Give Wealth Its Meaning

If money were no concern, 35.4% would spend more time with family and friends, while 28.7% would prioritise travel and exploration.

The potential cost of pursuing wealth is equally revealing: 26.3% identify reduced time with loved ones as its biggest downside, closely followed by increased stress at 26%.

Ultimately, people want money to improve their lives without sacrificing the very experiences that make life meaningful.
