Happy Mother’s day 🙂
There is nothing in the whole world that surpasses the unconditional love of a mother. They care for you with what they have and more. A mother can fight with anyone for her children, protect them till her last breath. History is the testimony of mother’s strength and perseverance.
For a mother, it doesn’t matter, how her children are —beautiful, ugly, smart, slow, good, bad, successful or failure—a mother will love her child, despite the shortcomings. Even Cersei Lannister, from the famous series Game of Thrones’ only redeemable quality, was the love for her children.
Mothers do what they do without complaining or expecting. I think most moms don’t even expect that their children be there for them in future. Perhaps, they wish their children do it, out of love, not liability.
An emotion unparalleled to any other, mother’s love is a debt we all have. Nonetheless, repayable only by being a source of comfort and joy in her old days.
But…
What makes a mother so strong, so fierce, and so inherently nurturing?
It’s the spirit of motherhood!
However, the notion that only a “Mother” can possess the spirit of motherhood has been proved false in the modern era. As a society, we have come a long, long way. We have learned to accept differences and celebrate them. We have come to accept humans in their most raw and flawed form. And today, the world has an array of unconventional mothers.
People who, embody the spirit of motherhood, and have shown the world, that mothers necessarily don’t have to be married, don’t have to conceive a child or they don’t have to be women at all.
The world is an oasis, of single mothers, single fathers, gay/lesbian parents, guardians, siblings, and grandparents, taking on the roles and responsibilities of a mother, and acing it.
In the movie, Room, we felt the agony of Joy a— single, abused mother, who makes the most of her dire circumstances to keep her son happy. We were in tears in The Pursuit of Happyness, when, Chris Gardner tries to give his son, the care and affection of his mother while struggling with homelessness. In the hit sitcom Modern Family, we smiled along with Mitchell Pritchett, and Cameron Tucker – two loving gay parents, nurturing Lily. And we connected with the trials of the family in The Kids Are All Right, where Nic and Jules, a loving lesbian couple, try to provide and raise their kids.
While these are fictional examples, they reflect the tales of countless people, who are going above and beyond to take care of their children. I have come to believe that the traditional ideas of what mothers have to do, have changed. A single mother may not cook for her kids or tuck them to bed, but she might be working 12 hours a day, to provide food and education for her children. Does that make her, any less of an affectionate, caring ?
A sibling, taking care of a younger one, while, juggling with their own battles and desires; Loving their brother/sister like a mother and often sacrificing their needs and putting the interests of their sibling before them. Doesn’t this love and care symbolize the essence of motherhood?
All of these, uncustomary mothers, are equally deserving to be celebrated today. Love like this has to be treasured and respected. Come, on this Mother’s Day, let’s honour the spirit of motherhood and everything it stands for.
I want to conclude with some words of wisdom for mothers as well as children.
To all the mothers:
As a mother, you dedicate your lives to us- your children. You shower us with love and affection, even at times, when we don’t deserve it. Years of your life, to help your kids grow and stand on their own feet. However, at one point in your children’s lives, you have to let them run their own race. Of course, your children want your support, but not by holding their hand till the finish line, rather, by cheering in the sidelines when they win and helping them when they fall.
Also, to every parent, a word of caution, help your children financially, but don’t ever go penniless because of it. Be independent till your last breath. Unfortunately, it’s the reality of the world, that when kids grow up, oftentimes, they are not what you expect them to be. They may not take care of their ageing parents and think of them as a burden. Haven’t we all seen, the heartbreaking movie, Make Way for Tomorrow. Therefore, always plan for your secure future.
To all the children:
If you are blessed with a loving family and especially with a nurturing mother, no matter how busy you are, make time for them, call them, love, and respect them. Remember, not everyone is fortunate enough to have a family.

4 years agoMother, the most selfless, caring, courageous and motivator she could be. Celebrating her everyday with just asking her how happy she is, is all that we could give for what she gave to us,
