THE BIG PICTURE

Work Is Becoming More Human

The Panel Station surveyed 234,921 consumers across 31 global markets to understand how people define career success, what motivates them at work, and how workplace expectations are evolving.

The findings reveal a workforce that is becoming more intentional about its career choices. Consumers continue to value financial security, but they are also placing greater importance on work-life balance, flexibility, career development, and long-term wellbeing. Rising expectations, rapid technological change, and the growing influence of AI are encouraging people to rethink what makes work truly worthwhile.

The trend is clear: the future of work is no longer defined by where people work or how much they earn. It is increasingly defined by how work supports their lives.

Work-Life Balance Is Becoming a Measure of Success

Around 67.5% of respondents rate their work-life balance highly, showing that career success is increasingly measured by more than professional achievement alone.

Consumers are looking for careers that leave room for family, health, hobbies, and personal wellbeing. The findings suggest that organisations offering flexibility and healthier working environments are becoming more attractive than those focused solely on traditional career progression.

Career Expectations Continue to Rise

Work is no longer judged by the paycheque alone. Nearly 64.3% of respondents say their expectations are higher than they were three years ago, with meaningful roles, career growth, better opportunities, and flexibility now shaping where they choose to work.

The power balance is shifting. Employees are no longer asking only, “What can I give this organisation?” They are also asking, “What will this organisation give back?” Employers that support ambition, wellbeing, and life beyond work are increasingly the ones that stand out.

AI Is Becoming Part of Everyday Work

AI is no longer standing at the edge of the workplace. It has become part of the daily routine. Almost 47.6% of respondents say AI and automation have positively influenced their jobs or career prospects.

Instead of seeing AI only as a threat, many people are discovering its practical value. It can speed up repetitive work, support learning, improve efficiency, and create space for more meaningful tasks. The conversation is gradually moving beyond whether AI will replace jobs to how it will reshape the way people work.

Flexibility Is Becoming the New Workplace Standard

Hybrid work is the preferred working arrangement for 35.6% of respondents, ahead of fully remote and fully office-based models.

Employees increasingly value flexibility because it allows them to balance professional responsibilities with personal commitments. Rather than choosing between home and office, many consumers are looking for workplaces that combine collaboration with autonomy.

Salary Still Matters, but It Isn't Everything

While 33.1% identify salary as the biggest reason for staying in a job, career growth (18.7%), stability (18.4%), flexibility (12.3%), and purpose (11.4%) also play important roles.

The findings reveal a broader definition of career success. Financial rewards remain essential, but consumers increasingly expect work to provide development opportunities, meaningful experiences, and long-term security.

Preparing for Change Is Becoming Essential

More than 53% of respondents believe they would be prepared if their current job disappeared tomorrow.

Rapid technological change and evolving industries are encouraging consumers to invest in new skills, remain adaptable, and build careers that can withstand uncertainty. Career resilience is becoming just as valuable as technical expertise.

The Future of Work

Work in 2026 is becoming more flexible, more digital, and more personal. Consumers are no longer defining career success by salary alone. They want meaningful work, opportunities to grow, healthier work-life balance, and employers who support their wellbeing alongside productivity.

The future will belong to organisations that combine technology with humanity, offering flexibility, continuous learning, and career development while helping employees thrive both professionally and personally.
