A good action movie is a remedy for drudgery days. In the current pandemic ridden world, monotonous days are more common than before. Best action movies give you the adrenaline rush you crave with nail-biting chase sequences, gravity-defying stunts, and epic explosions, all from the comfort of your home. Truth be told, even if you are a hardboiled acclaimed cinema fan, you still need shoot-outs and showdowns every once in a while.

The best action movies to watch this season:
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
This acclaimed movie from Ang Lee makes for a fabulous addition to the Wuxia Movies. Set in the 19th-century Qing dynasty China, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’s fight sequences are like fighters dancing to a musical while showing superior martial arts skill. Gender roles, family honour, sacrifice are the central themes of this movie. Starring veteran martial arts stars Chow Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi, the epic showdowns between them will make your jaw drop.
Watch this masterpiece not only for its award-winning action choreography but also for its profound, almost poetic, romantic and spiritual nature. Do not miss this.
John Wick
It’s the boogieman, hid your children. But if your spoilt, entitled, egoistic son killed the puppy of a grieving ex-killing machine, nothing can save him. Pulled back into the world of crime, ex-hitman John Wick’s name brings both fear and respect in the underworld. Starring the age-defying Keanu Reeves, John Wick is brimming with stylish visuals, stellar action choreography and a world of mobsters and assassins.
This revenge thriller has enough bullet ballets, mayhem, and Keanu killing people with almost anything to satisfy any action movie junkie.
Mad Max: Fury Road
No action movie list is complete without this 2015 movie. Australian director George Miller had already created his post-apocalyptic world starring Mel Gibson as Max. But in Mad Max: Fury Road, Miller takes it one step further to create a world that is desperate, scorched, and wholly handcuffed to its circumstances. Tom Hardy, who takes over the role as Max, is the man running from his past sins, Charlize Theron is Imperator Furiosa, protecting a group of runaway females.
The movie is turbocharged with unbelievable stunts, chase scenes, and fearless action to make you glued to the screen. The sound, editing, cinematography, performances, along with visionary direction, alleviate Mad Max: Fury Road to become one of the best action movies ever. There is none like it.
Edge of Tomorrow
Edge of Tomorrow is Groundhog’s Day meets Independence Day. This sci-fi action movie is about an alien invasion. Tom Crusie, who is always saving humanity in other films, takes a back seat in this action thriller. He plays an Army public relations officer called Major William Cage, who has never seen combat. Cage somehow lands in the middle of a brutal battle and finds he is stuck in a time loop, repeating the battle day over and over again.
The beautiful Emily Blunt plays the badass Rita Vrataski, a skilled soldier and poster girl for the armed forces. Rita and Cage team up to weaponize the time-loop and end the war. With bone-and-skull-crushing action scenes and a fascinating concept, Edge of Tomorrow makes for a great weekend movie.
Atomic Blonde
Starring Charlize Theron as British spy Lorraine Broughton, the plot of Atomic Blonde is set in November 1989, before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Lorraine is tasked with finding a British double agent working in West Germany. Based on the graphic novel The Coldest City, Charlize Theron proves she can look drop-dead gorgeous while holding her own in action movies.
With a thumping soundtrack and fast-paced, brutal actions sequences, Atomic Blonde provides an adrenaline-pumping movie with enough depth and plot twist. Added with Theron’s remarkable performance, it’s a must-watch for every action genre fantastic.
Speed
This 1994 action movie plot seems silly on paper, but it works to become an edge of the seat thriller when introduced on-screen with the right cast, action, direction, and the creepiest villain. Starring Keanu Reeves as L.A.P.D. Officer Jack Traven, Speed is about a mad bomber Howard Payne who has planted a bomb on a bus. Once the bus goes above 50 mph, the bomb is activated, and when it drops below 50, it’ll blow up.
Our favourite Sandra Bullock stars as a passenger on the bus, who takes over the driver seat when the bus driver gets injured in a misunderstood shooting. The bus cruises in the wrong lanes, wrong directions, sideswiping other cars, causing accidents; Jack tries to disarm the bomb all along. Watch it for the amazing chemistry between the leads and the full-throttle action.
